International Student Information

Welcome to Awatapu College.   Our staff and students come from all over the world and every year we celebrate our cultural diversity with a week long festival to promote cultural understanding.

Our international students achieve highly academically and in the past three years international students have twice been the Proxime Accessit (Runner up to Dux) and one was the Dux in 2003.   Each sudent's English language skills are assessed upon arrival at the College and an individual learning plan is put in place that includes individual and small group tuition in English as well as support in mainstream classes.  Mrs Mathews, the Dean of International Students, oversees each student's programme and progress.

International students are fully integrated into all aspects of College life and are encouraged to take part in the wide range of sport, music and drama activities the College offers.  Many form strong friendships with New Zealand students through their shared interests.

The College employs a full time Administrator for international students.  Amongst her duties is oversight of home stay arrangements.  Many of our home stay families have had a long relationship with the College and we work hard to ensure students are well looked after while they study here.  We take a lot of care in matching students with the best host families, considering not only the physical needs of students, but also their emotional issues as well.

The staff of the College are very happy to answer any questions you may have so please feel free to contact us at any time.
