Year 12/13 Geography Trip

Earlier this term, the Year 12 and 13 Geography students were accompanied, by teachers from the Social Sciences department, on a field trip to Mt Ruapehu. The purpose of this trip was to visit five different locations on the strato-volcano and collect data for their 5 credit research internal.

Students worked in groups to collect temperature, wind, altitude and vegetation data which they would use to answer their research questions. They were treated to a unique day and experienced the many different environments of the mountain, including the Tangiwai Memorial site, the pristine native forest at Lake Rotokura, Tongariro National Park's highest waterfall, the Turoa Ski Field and the Rangipo Desert.

A big thank you to the Social Science Department for their support. Thank you also to the wonderful Year 12 and 13 Geography students for their mature and focused attitude.
