Cross Country Champs

Noah

Congratulations to all of our students who competed at the Manawatu Inter Secondary School Cross Country in Foxton earlier this term. Our students performed well and represented the College with pride. A special mention to Noah Macdermid who came 1st in the Senior Boys Race. This put Noah through to compete at the New Zealand Cross Country Championships in Taupo. Noah raced incredibly well, achieving 29th out of a field of over 190 boys. As well as this, he had the fastest leg in the Manawatu relay team. Well done, Noah.

Manu Korero Speech Competition

DSC 4266

Congratulations to Te Manumōhio Johnson, Grace Cherrington and Hinemāia Winikeri who represented Awatapu College at the 2018 Manu Kōrero Regional Competition recently.

Te Manumōhio spoke in the Senior English section. This involved delivering an impromptu speech as well as a prepared speech. Te Manumōhio represented himself admirably, speaking with confidence and with his characteristic humour. Grace entered the Junior English category. This is the second year Grace has competed in this section and, once again, she expressed her ideas with confidence and sincerity. Her speech was not dressed with drama nor prepared choreography, which added to the authenticity of her speech. Hinemāia spoke in the Junior Māori section. Typically, this is an area where numbers are lacking, however, Hinemāia took on the challenge willingly and spoke proudly in her native tongue. Ka mau te wehi!

We must acknowledge these brave students who spoke proudly at this year’s competition. They are a credit to their school, whānau and Iwi, and a positive example to their peers.

At a recent assembly, Grace (pictured) delivered the speech she performed at the Manu Korero Regional Competition. Congratulations, Grace, on presenting a powerful message about the importance of having strong values.

400 Block Coffee Course

Students from the 400 Block enjoyed a barista course this term. Students were trained by professionals baristas and had fun making a variety of coffees... which staff were more than happy to sample!
