Hillary Outdoors Trip

On Sunday 25 March, a group of Year 12 students set off on an action packed week at the Hillary Outdoors Centre in Tongariro. The programme is designed to widen students’ boundaries through outdoor activities such as abseiling, tramping and caving. Students are also faced with challenges along the way to develop their team building and leadership skills.

Sailing Success

Congratulations to Matilda Fyles who came 1st in the Manawatu Marine Boat Club Open Bic Class Regatta at Foxton Beach recently.

Drama Performance Showcase

On Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 April, the Year 12 and 13 Drama students will be showcasing their term production - ‘15 Minutes of YouTube Fame’. This is a fast paced comedy about the traps and perils of internet fame - a biting satire of what goes wrong in the world of the internet! The Year 11 Drama students will also be performing scenes from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by William Shakespeare.

On Tuesday 20 March, students from the 400 Block competed in the Athletes With Disabilities event at the Massey Athletics Track. Well done to all of our students who took part.

Festival of Cultures Week

Week 8 of Term One was our Festival of Cultures Week. This is an exciting week of activities where the vibrant and colourful cultures within our community are celebrated. In all, over 30 nationalities were represented during the Festival showing the rich tapestry of culture within our school.

The highlights of the week were the Japanese Open Room on Monday, the Amazing Race on Tuesday, the Market Day on Wednesday, the surprise ‘Flash Mob’ and visit from the Japanese Embassy on Thursday, and the International Dress Day and International Soccer Match on Friday.

The International and Performing Arts Departments warmly invite friends and family to attend the Festival of Cultures Week Soiree. Come along and support the awesome and talented Awatapu College students. You will see the Junior Idol winners and several musical and dance items from our International Students.
