End of Year Dates for Junior Students

With the final week of school of the year fast approaching, please note the following dates and times affecting Junior (Year 9 and 10) Students.

Monday 7 December 
Normal classes are disbanded for the first two periods to enable Senior Students to sign out. Junior Students start school at 11.30am. Bus students who are required to arrive at school at the usual time should report to the Library where they will be supervised until normal timetable resumes.
 
Thursday 10 December 
Final day of school for junior students.
  • Students attend school from 8.45am as usual
  • Junior prize-giving 12.30pm-1.50pm in school Gymnasium (all parents and caregivers are welcome to attend)
  • Junior students then attend a brief form time where school reports are issued—school concludes at 1.55pm

Early School closure - 5 November 2015

Due to all teaching staff being required to attend the Senior Honours Awards Ceremony on the evening of Thursday 5 November, Awatapu College will close early on this day. Students will be released from school at 12.30pm on Thursday 5 November. Normal timetable will resume for all Junior (Year 9 and 10) Students on Friday 6 November.

400 Block: Loud Shirt Day

On Friday 18 September, businesses, schools and community groups across New Zealand wore their brightest and most colourful shirts to raise funds for children with cochlear implants and hearing aids.

Our 400 Block staff and students participated in this with great style and enthusiasm!

Highest Guiding Award

Big congratulations to Caitlyn Bartosh receiving her Queen's Guide award at Government House last week. The Queen's Guide award is the highest award available in Guiding and demands the highest standard of effort and personal achievement.

Jessica Shooting for Success

​Congratulations to ​Jessica Burgess-Smith who captained the North Island Juniors Smallbore Rifle shooting team over the weekend against's the South Island Juniors team. Jessica ​was selected in​ the New Zealand Under 21 Juniors to shoot against England and ​she managed to ​top score with a 295 on English targets. Jessica ​was also selected in the North Island Juniors to shoot against Scotland.​ Well done Jess on a great weekends shooting.​

 

Luke McDowall Selected for NZ Under 23 Team

luke basketballCongratulations to ex-student Luke McDowall was recently selected in the NZ Under 23 Men's Wheelchair Basketball Team.

McDowall was also chosen as the most promising player at the Junior Wheelchair Basketball Nationals in 2015. He was then invited by Wheelchair Sports Western Australia, for a two week training camp with their strong team, the Be Active Perth Wheelcats to continue his development. During this camp he also played for this team in their state league, with other Australian Wheelchair Basketball representatives.
