Awatapu's International Department is led by the Award winning Director of International Education and HOD English Language, Mary Cherian Matthews, who has been at Awatapu for over two decades. Mary is known for her attention to detail and ability to be across every aspect of the programme, but is quick to point out that while she may be the front person for the programme, she can only succeed with the support of her equally passionate team.

As part of a medium-sized school, the department staff are fully aware of what each student is up to - academically, socially and in their homestay. We aim to keep the number of international students to a manageable level, thereby ensuring the provision of a quality programme and support. We also have a diverse cultural mix to encourage participation and integration.
